You probably do not pay a lot of attention to your car’s air conditioner. However, driving in a car without a functioning air conditioner can be extremely uncomfortable. Fortunately, many of the most common car AC problems are easy to correct.

You are Not Getting Enough Cool Air

If you turn on your air conditioner and do not get any cool air, then a major component may have failed. Your air conditioner is made up of several units including a condenser, evaporator, fans, blowers and expansion valve. If one of these components is not working properly, then your air conditioner will not be able to cool your car. For example, your air conditioner may not produce cool air due to a bad compressor or worn belt. If your evaporator blower motor blows out, then you will get little to no cool air.
This problem may also be caused by Freon leaks. Most cars have safety features that prevent your air conditioner from working properly if there is a leak. If you think that you have a leak, then you will need to take your car to the shop.

There is a Pungent Odor

Most microorganisms need moisture in order to thrive. That is why the air conditioner creates the perfect environment for bacteria, viruses and fungi to grow. You may notice odors as soon as you turn on the air conditioner. The microorganisms can spread to your dashboard. Fortunately, a technician can inspect and flush your system. The earlier you take your car to the mechanic, the easier this problem is for you to correct.
If your car AC problems are not addressed, then it will lead to a problem known a sick car syndrome. Not only does this affect your car, but it can also affect your health. It can cause runny nose, drowsiness, headaches and itchy water eyes. It can also cause flu-like symptoms.

You are Getting Warm Air Instead of Cool Air

It is normal for your air conditioner to blow warm air when you first turn on it. It takes time for the AC system to cool the air, which is why it may not blow cold air as soon as you turn it on. However, this should only last for one or two minutes. This is one of the most common car AC problems. It is likely caused by your condenser.
The condenser is responsible for cooling the refrigerant. It is made up of coils. If these coils are dirty, then the condenser will not be able to cool the refrigerant. This means that warm air will come out instead of cold air. A dirty condenser is a problem that is easy to fix. If you have it cleaned, then you will be able to get cool air again. It is best to take your car to the mechanic if you have this problem. If your condenser is old, then you may need to have it replaced.
Keep in mind that a dirty condenser can cause a number of problems. Your air conditioner will not work as efficiently, which can cause it to break it down sooner.

You are Not Consistently Getting Cool Air

Have you ever gone for a long drive and realized that your air conditioner stopped working and started blowing hot air? After that, you realized that you got cold air again. You noticed that the cycle kept repeating itself throughout the entire drive. You probably wondered what is wrong with your car.
This problem is referred to as intermittent cooling. It is a sign that one of the components in your AC system is freezing up. In most cases, an iced evaporator is the culprit behind this. You will not be able to get cool air if the evaporator has frozen up. Your AC system will continue to blow warm air intermittently until the evaporator melts.
There are a number of things that can cause this problem. For example, it may be caused by a blocked evaporator drain. It may also be caused by a dirty cabin air filter. Additionally, you should look under your car and check for puddles. This is a sign that a component of your car is freezing.
These are just some of the most common car AC problems, and while they do occur most frequently, there could also be a different underlying cause to your AC issues. If your AC system has stopped working, bring it to Creech Import Repair and we’ll be happy to get it cooling again.
