Vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap identifying the new required oil grade, an oil filter replacement, and an owner’s manual insert free of charge<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Extended Engine Protection<\/span><\/h3>\n

If your vehicle receives the recall inspection remedy, you will be provided additional protection if an engine failure occurs in your vehicle as a result of this condition. If this condition occurs on your vehicle within 10 years from the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first, your engine will be repaired or replaced at no charge<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additional Recall: 2025-2026 Silverado & Sierra 3500HD Fuel System Issue<\/span><\/h3>\n

In a separate but related recall (NHTSA Recall No. 26V129), GM has recalled approximately 11,787 heavy-duty trucks<\/span>. This recall exclusively involves Silverado 3500 and Sierra 3500 trucks equipped with 6.6L V8 gasoline engines and the dual fuel tank setup (RPOs L8T and N2N)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The problem:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0An incorrect Engine Control Module (ECM) software calibration may erroneously set certain Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) during a normal fuel transfer from the secondary rear tank to the primary front tank. Once these codes are set, the truck’s computer completely disables any further fuel transfers between the tanks until the next time you cycle the ignition key<\/span>. The fuel gauge will briefly show the correct amount of fuel that is actually available to the engine, but after just five seconds, the gauge reverts to showing the total combined fuel volume of both tanks<\/span>. This means your gauge will show you have plenty of gas, even though the fuel trapped in the secondary tank is completely unavailable to the engine during your drive<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fix:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0GM will update the software in the vehicle’s engine control module<\/span>. Owners may receive the update over the air if their vehicle supports wireless software updates. Alternatively, dealers can perform the update during a service visit<\/span>.
