We’ve seen many Hyundai’s and Toyota’s in our shop recently with a “check engine light” illuminated for a code P0441. This is related to the evaporative emissions system which controls the fuel vapors in the fuel tank and prevents HC’s from leaking into the atmosphere. Many times the culprit for this code is a faulty canister purge/solenoid valve.
This component basically controls vapor/vacuum flow between the charcoal canister which stores the fuel vapors and the fuel tank, and manifold vacuum. It’s controlled or turned on by the ECU or Electronic Control Unit. Some of but not limited to vehicles affected are 2005 Hyundai Sonata, 2004 Toyota Sienna. 2006 Toyota Camry, 2008 Hyundai Santa FE. The purge valve failure doesn’t in any way affect the reliability or driveability of the vehicles.
Clunking noise in steering column when turning.
Cause, rubber star bushing worn.
Replace rubber star busing in steering column
On many Hyundai models, a clunking noise may be heard in steering column when turning. The steering column pictured below is a 2009 Elantra and was in the shop with this symptom. Many cars today have electric power-assisted steering as opposed to the standard hydraulic assist. The star bushing goes between the electric motor and the steering column gear. This repair does not require removing the entire steering column, but for other reasons, we had to remove this one so we took the opportunity to share these pics and info on this problem.
